The SEPA mandate

What is a SEPA mandate?

It's the signed authorization by the debtor allowing the creditor to initiate SEPA direct debit collections. Without a signed mandate, you cannot legitimately collect.

What fields are mandatory?

UMR, Creditor ID, creditor name and address, debtor name, debtor IBAN, payment type (recurrent/one-off), date and signature.

Is a digitally signed mandate valid?

Yes. The EPC recognizes the validity of electronically signed mandates (e-mandates) provided they comply with local electronic signature regulation.

How long must mandates be kept?

It's recommended to keep signed mandates for at least 13 months after the last collection, or 36 months after revocation. Some banks require longer retention.

Do you manage SEPA mandates for members or clients?

Need your members to sign mandates digitally? Custodita includes legally valid digital signatures.
